Causes of Yellow Teeth
Teeth can yellow and become discolored for many reasons. There are environmental causes as well as genetic causes. Some of the causes of yellow teeth can be avoided while others cannot. Some of the causes of yellow teeth include:
- Coffee
- Tea
- Soda
- Tobacco
- Medications
- Aging
- Too much fluoride
- Older dental materials
- Poor dental hygiene
Some causes of yellow teeth occur while children’s teeth are developing. Developing teeth can be susceptible to yellowing if children take certain medications or if they experience trauma to their teeth. Medications and trauma can negatively affect developing enamel and result in yellow or discolored teeth. Trauma to the teeth can also yellow adult teeth.
Preventing Yellow Teeth
In order to keep your smile bright, you may want to avoid the things that cause your smile to yellow. It is near impossible to avoid everything that yellows teeth. Instead of avoiding the foods and drinks that yellow teeth, you will want to practice good dental hygiene to remove the stains and brighten your smile. Good dental hygiene involves:
- Brushing your teeth at least twice a day
- Flossing your teeth at least once a day
- Visiting your dentist for routine dental cleanings
In conjunction to practicing good dental hygiene, you may want to visit Las Vegas cosmetic dentist Dr. Bloch for a teeth whitening treatment. She offers two types of teeth whitening treatments.
- The Sapphire Teeth Whitening Treatment
- Home Teeth Bleaching Kits
